My Top 5 Used Kitchen Machines

I’m not here to discuss that a woman’s place is not in the kitchen. I’ll leave that battle to the feminists. A kitchen just like any other workplace – needs tools. Honestly, I’ve exaggerated a bit, just a little bit. You don’t actually need actually need an orange peeler but it does help in avoiding sticky orange-ish nails. Kitchen tools make the place enjoyable while keeping it an easy place to work at.

1. Dishwasher

Those who own one will swear with the convenience it comes with. We have not forgotten those days when we had to create duty rosters on who’ll wash the dishes. This chore was no joke. Especially on those busy days when all you want to do is take a nap after a sumptuous meal. I personally consider it a necessity. My time should be spent on those things that matter, shouldn’t it? Help me understand why we stopped washing clothes by hand and use a washing machine instead yet one in every three households in Europe doesn’t have a dishwasher?

2. Blender

Hey, do you know a blender isn’t just useful for making smoothies? If you love making sauces, soups, and dips, you need a blender more than you need a food processor. A powerful and easy to clean blender is that appliance that shouldn’t be missing in anyone’s kitchen. With a blend that’s half decent, you have the capability to prepare whole food smoothies. You can also blend your favorite fruits and vegetables together with those superfoods: The likes of chia seeds, flax etcetera. Though I personally think they are overrated. That’s a story for another day. One thing about blenders, they should not only be used when you have visitors. From preparing puree food to crushing ice, they have plenty of uses

3. Microwave

Do you know how hard it would be warming that crunchy meat pie without using a microwave? These devices are cleverly engineered to warm anything. They throw tiny waves at your food warming it. That’s why they’re called microwaves. These waves make food molecules vibrate and rub against each other. The food warms up the same way our hands warm when we rub them during cold days. They offer speedy cooking and this isn’t the best thing yet. They do not generate heat. Your kitchen won’t heat up and they prepare food that is more nutritious than other conventional cooking means.

4. An electric Kettle

They say buy a kettle before you need one. I’m just kidding, that’s a plunger. You never realize how important an electric kettle is before you get one. Once you buy it, you’ll wonder how you ever survived without it. You won’t believe that you’ll be using it more times than any other appliance in your kitchen. Besides being energy efficient than gas, it’s fast… really fast. Like 10 times faster. For those that love coffee like I do, it’s essential. Forget stovetop kettles, electric kettles offer twice the convenience (Can convenience be quantified?). They are designed for heating water so they must be more efficient. If you’re in a college dorm where stove top kettles are not permitted or even in a hotel, go for an electric kettle. And they automatically switch themselves off once the water is warm enough. The kettle will never boil dry or raise your electricity bill.

5. Food Vacuum Sealer

Even though this is the last item on our list, it’s not necessarily the least useful. You believe in “best for last”, don’t you? A vacuum food sealer is considered a modified atmosphere packaging (MAP) appliance. This is just a fancy term used by engineers to describe vacuum food preservation means. If you want to truly preserve the flavor of your foods without using any chemical preservatives, go get a food vacuum sealer. Apart from getting a reduced food loss, your food will be better presented. There are various packaging options. You can settle for rolls of film or even get bags to seal your food. If you’re feeling a little extravagant, you could even get zip lock bags instead of those ones with east to tear notches. Once you get a proper machine, you will be guaranteed that your food will remain fresh for longer. Pro tip: clean and wash all food before sealing, it lasts a little longer.

This is by no means a comprehensive list. While we’ve listed those appliances, we think every kitchen should have, it’s just an opinion. What works for you? What appliances in the kitchen can’t you live without?
